Jacob Stein is a third-generation Mudgee winemaker, whose family has been making wines in Australia since the 1800's. After graduating from university, Jacob worked 7 vintages both in Australia and abroad (including Italy, Canada, Western Australia & Victoria) before returning home to the family winery in Mudgee in 2009. It was here that he began his very own family with Gina, his wife. Together they have two beautiful children.
Jacob's family vineyard makes a variety of fantastic wines. Their Rieslings in particular are well decorated and are fast becoming known as one of NSW’s best examples of this varietal. However it was the winery's 2009 Reserve Cabernet Shiraz blend that was the deciding factor in Jacob's latest award, the Gourmet Traveller Young Winemaker of the Year for 2012. In his early 30's, and given his enviable list of awards, one would think the best is yet to come from this young winemaker. Jacob's passion for creating great wine along with his humble nature, hardworking attitude and most importantly, his good sense of humour are just some of the reasons we chose him as our chief winemaker.
Jacob's career highlights:
2011 – International Up and Coming Riesling Winemaker – Canberra International Riesling Challenge
2010 – The Wine Society Young Winemaker of the Year Finalist
2009, 2010 & 2011 - Mudgee Wine Show Most Successful Exhibitor
